 When I extended a helping hand to the households in Hoa Binh, I was deeply moved by the stark reality they faced. The homes in this community were far from complete; they were mere assemblages of bamboo branches. What struck me even more were the extraordinary circumstances that these residents found themselves in. I vividly recall a conversation with the village head, who revealed that this place had once been a notorious den for drug traffickers. Many individuals, driven by desperation, had succumbed to this dark path. But were they entirely to blame? These people were struggling to secure even their basic necessities, living day by day with meager meals. One family, the Hungs, left an indelible mark on my heart. Their daily battle revolved around securing enough food, while Mr. Hung's income barely covered the cost of raising his child. Each day, the children had to fend for themselves, occasionally relying on the kindness of a neighbor when Mr. Hung had to leave for work. ...

In Vietnam, a nation in development, significant challenges persist, particularly in remote areas where access to quality education remains a concern. On April 12, 2022, I embarked on a meaningful journey with my friends to the Hoa Binh region, where we volunteered to teach young children. What we discovered there was a world vastly different from the bustling cities – a world where education takes a back seat to more immediate concerns, such as ensuring children have enough to eat. In the classrooms of Hoa Binh, we encountered cramped spaces where students of various ages shared a single room. Strikingly, some children struggled to communicate in Vietnamese, their own language. This eye-opening experience underscored the harsh realities faced by these students. Our volunteer session, though brief, provided us with invaluable insights into their lives.
